As music copyist for the Marine Band I am responsible for the accurate transcription of preprinted and hand written scores. The demanding nature of my work requires me to use the best possible software to compliment the expertise the Marine Band players exhibit on a daily basis. Without a doubt Graphire Music Press achieves and surpasses my expectations for all of my music notation needs.
As a professional copyist and music typesetter I have spent the last 11 years using many different computer music notation packages. Like many copyists I ended up using Coda's Finale. That is, until I was introduced to Graphire Music Press.
Naturally when I first got the Music Press demo I needed all the functionality that I was accustomed to with Finale. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of power Music Press had right out of the box. I mean, when I first got Finale I spent about 2 weeks reading the voluminous manuals and many hours of trial and error just to crank out an orchestra score that when all was said and done looked pretty horrible. Now on the other hand, the Music Press manual and tutorial are concise, clear documents. After about a 5 hour run through the demo, I was able to set a full band score and upon printout the score looked beautiful. To call Music Press intuitive is an understatement. The program engineering is nothing short of a miracle. The tools for everything are laid out in a very logical order and even for novice engravers it makes music entry fast and easy, and output very clean and professional.
Interesting things have happened since I started setting music with Music Press. I was recently given a project by a colleague who sets music for a major publisher. The reason he needed me to do the project was he couldn't do it in Finale, period. He knew I used Music Press, and now the score and parts are being prepared for publication. This type of story is becoming more frequent the more I use Music Press. In my opinion there is no need to look any further than Graphire Music Press for a software package to engrave high quality looking music.
